CBRE Global Investors, working on behalf of a separate account client as their investment manager and developer, announces the opening of Leonard Retail Park, Brussels. The new retail park consists of 18,700 sq m and hosts one the world’s largest Decathlon stores (10,000 sq m) and incorporates the Belux headquarters of Decathlon. Other retailers include Quick, Ava Papier and Jim’s Fitness.
The state of the art development offers a variety of other services to meet the needs of the residential and business environment the park also has. There is a child day care facility, fitness area and an outdoor sports area.
Sustainability has been a key component of the development of the park. The use of solar panels, green roofs and the use of sustainable materials have met the BREEAM standards and the park has been awarded a ‘Very Good Certificate’.
Specific attention has also been paid to the accessibility of the retail park with separate access facilities for cars, bikes and pedestrians.
Patrick Meutermans, Head of Belgium, CBRE Global Investors commented
“The redevelopment of this park is a success story to date. We have managed to secure high quality retailers, develop the social aspect of the park and created a very sustainable and ‘green’ development as well.
“This was in essence an abandoned site that had very high vacancy rates and also had many unsuccessful attempts to revitalise it. We have worked with the local economy and business community to provide a park that meets the needs of all the users and we’re very proud of what we have achieved in a short time frame.”
