On the first of April Primark opened its new store in Multi’s Almada Forum (80,000 m2), marking the retail giant’s ninth store in Portugal since it first entered the Portuguese market in 2009. The new 4,000 m2 store is the first on the south bank of the Tejo River and will be a welcome addition for the area’s consumers. The opening weekend attracted 27% more visitors than the average of the previous weekends in March 2016, including Easter.
Almada Forum in Almada, located in the greater Lisbon area, is one of the leading shopping centres in Iberia with 230 shops and 5,253 parking spaces.
The new Primark store is located on the ground floor of Almada Forum and will be a valuable addition to the current range of retail and other outlets, making Almada even more attractive to the shoppers in its catchment area. Primark used the occasion of its opening to showcase the latest fashion trends on offer in its stores.
Carlos Costa, centre manager:
“Almada Forum created all the necessary conditions for the brand’s opening in our shopping centre. Those who live on the south bank of the Tejo River will no longer need to go to the inner city of Lisbon to shop at Primark. Primark is a very strategic store, because it has the power to attract greater numbers of shoppers to Almada Forum. Primark always boosts footfall at shopping centres, which will also make us more attractive for other retailers.’’
Successful improvement tenant-mix
The opening of Primark happened after a year of successful improvement of the tenant-mix with 15 new retailers arriving –as well as several expansions, refurbishments and relocations – including Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Toys‘’R’’Us, C&A, H&M and MANGO, which tripled its store. With the opening of the first 4DX innovative cinema screen and a Fitness Hut gym this month, Almada Forum is fully equipped for further growth.
